MicroBizMatters Day, a social media event aimed at the smallest businesses, takes place this week on Friday 12 January.
MicroBizMatters Day, now in its fourth year, is described as "the biggest independent social media day of recognition, action and learning for business owners in the world". It is estimated that one in every seven working adults in the UK runs their own micro-enterprise.
This week, micro-business owners in the UK are being encouraged to help other small firms by sharing ideas and expertise. Using #IGave12, businesses can get involved by:
- Providing 12 tips that other business owners could learn from;
- Making a 12-minute video supporting another business;
- Buying 12 items from micro-businesses;
- Following 12 new start-ups on Twitter.
The event is being supported by a number of key business organisations including the Association of Independent Professionals and the Self-Employed (IPSE), the Forum of Private Business (FPB), the International Association of Bookkeepers (IAB), Enterprise Nation and the Business Cafe.
Over eight hours of broadcasting will be hosted on Friday 12 January from XYZ Works and Social in Manchester. Participants will include celebrity entrepreneurs such digital guru Penny Power and Chris Percival of Jigsaw Medical. Charlie Mullins, founder and ceo of Pimlico Plumbers, will also be speaking at 10am via Google Hangout.
The event is the brainchild of Tony Robinson and Tina Boden. Tony Robinson said: "Micro-enterprise owners are major contributors to every nation's employment, innovation, communities and economic growth. By giving micro-business owners the right help in their first eighteen months of operation, particularly peer support, 80% will survive beyond three years. #MicroBizMatters Day connects micro-business owners to give them the best possible chance of success."
